Trust in Divine Design
Each day since November 8th, I mourn for the potential loss of human rights and civil liberties in the United States, and I worry that this wave is spreading to other areas of the world. As one person, there seems to be nothing I can do to change it. I am trying to rise above the worry and disappointment, and to be informed. I know that many people that I talk to are experiencing the same sense of discouragement. It is a type of grief, and there is no escaping it. Grief must be acknowledged and experienced to be overcome.
I look to others who can provide some light and hope, and I try to focus on making myself whole so that I can provide hope for others who will then also pass along hope and encouragement. Today, I read a hopeful passage on an angel card…
“… trust that there is a purpose to life. Keep faith that the chaos you see around you has an underlying meaning and Divine design. When times are hard, [some] can feel that the world has been orchestrated to work against them and that nothing’s fair. The truth is that your viewpoint has not yet expanded enough to put your problems into perspective (Virtue & Virtue, 2013, p. 47).
So, I am trying to be hopeful and to trust that new knowledge will be revealed and that the world will unfold in a way that is Divinely guided and good. I am praying for the world and for its leaders and for all people. I am reading to be informed, and I am searching for inspirational examples. As the angel card continues….
“Persevere, stay strong, and believe in yourself because the world needs you more than you know (Virtue & Virtue, 2013, p. 47).”

It Starts With Me - Pass It On
As world politics appear to be in a state of change, disruption, and confusion, it seems impossible for everyday people to even figure out what is going on because of fake news, media bias, and manipulated reporting. So, what can we do? I find myself waking up in the middle of the night worried about the future, and that is not productive.
When we are in a state of fear, our creative energies become blocked, which puts us more in a state of discontent. The basic energy of creation is love, so what are we to do? I am reminded about a couple of messages that I encounter from time to time in my readings and spiritual practice. One is a reading that talks about how the flight attendants tell us to put our own oxygen masks on first before we attempt to help others. The other message comes from a song that is sung every Sunday at a church to which I belong. The song goes….
“Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me. With every step I take, Let this be my solemn vow: To take each moment And live each moment In peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me.” ~ Anon (retrieved on December 3, 2016 from http://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/healingandtransformation/2014/07/let-there-be-peace-on-earth-and-let-it-begin-with-me.html#GzgVjzfCeJe00TI7.99)
Let each of us first take care of our own serenity and peacefulness by practicing love and kindness to one another. Let us practice it personally by being kind and gentle with ourselves. Let us practice it with our families and friends, at work, at school, and wherever else we interact with others.
Let us not be tempted to bully, criticize, dishonor and hate others because we are seeing it in leaders and in the media every day. Just because someone important is a bully or a racist doesn’t mean that it is okay. It is still unacceptable behavior. Rise above it and follow the advice of Michelle Obama, who says, “When they go low, we go high.” As each of us develops and reinforces our own abilities to express love, kindness, civility, equality, and fairness, we set examples for those around us who are also struggling and confused. We get more of what we focus on; love causes more love. Pass it on.
